Claire:
Figure skating was Claire’s life. She dabbled in freestyle but fell in love with synchro. She’s a USFSA Gold Medalist in MIF, and a two-time National Competitor in Collegiate Synchronized skating. At The Skater’s Edge she trained with master technicians and traveled to further her knowledge of skates and blades. She knows what it feels like to fly on the ice, and also how it feels when you fall.
As a skate specialist and technician, Claire’s #1 goal is the safety, comfort, and performance of her skaters. She wants to match skaters with their perfect skate, perfect blade, and perfect sharpening so they can achieve their goals.
After five years in the industry, Claire found that boots and blades didn’t always hold the answers to a skater’s comfort and success. She has been studying foot and ankle biomechanics and alignment under the advisement of fellow skate tech and orthotist, Patti Larkin of Houston Skate and Sports Orthotics.
Claire wants to better provide a strong foundation of stability and range of motion to her skaters. The learning never stops!
Claire has successfully fitted and cared for skates skates that belong to national and international competitors, Disney on Ice performers, local coaches, and hundreds of other skaters.
Dawn:
When Claire was 3 years old, Dawn stepped out on the ice with her wondering if either of them would end the session standing upright!
Twenty-five years later Dawn has filled nearly every role possible at an ice rink… aside from zamboni driver.
As a skating mom, club board member, ice monitor, competition volunteer, and synchro team manager, Dawn knows what it is to care for skaters. She is a wonderful resource for parents getting started in skating and navigating those first few practices and competitions.
At The Skater’s Edge she brings a mom’s touch to every skate and dress fitting. She is known for bringing the shyest skater out of their shell, and is happy to introduce new Skate Moms to the world of skating. Her thorough attention to detail brings skaters closer to their perfect skates, perfect dress, and their special performances.
Learning alongside Claire, Dawn also has a keen eye for boot fit and foot alignment. She works another job during the day, but in the evenings and on busy Saturdays she gives 110% to customers of Skater’s Edge.
